Psalm 90

THE DAYS BOF OUR YEARS ARE THREE-SCORE AND TEN AND IF REASON OF STRRENGTH THEY BE FOURSCORE YET THEIRN  STRENGTH IS LABOR AND SORROW  FOR SOON IT IS  GONE AND WE FLY AWAY. The eternity of God, the frailty of man. (1-6) Submission to Divine chastisements. (7-11) Prayer for mercy and grace. (12-17) Verses 1-6 It is supposed that this psalm refers to the sentence passed on Israel in the wilderness, ( Numbers 14 ) . The favour and protection of God are the only sure rest and comfort of the soul in this evil world. Christ Jesus is the refuge and dwelling-place to which we may repair. We are dying creatures, all our comforts in the world are dying comforts, but God is an ever-living God, and believers find him so. When God, by sickness, or other afflictions, turns men to destruction, he thereby calls men to return unto him to repent of their sins, and live a new life. A thousand years are nothing to God's eternity: between a minute and a million of years there is some proportion; between time and eternity there is none. All the events of a thousand years, whether past or to come, are more present to the Eternal Mind, than what was done in the last hour is to us. And in the resurrection, the body and soul shall both return and be united again. Time passes unobserved by us, as with men asleep; and when it is past, it is as nothing. It is a short and quickly-passing life, as the waters of a flood. Man does but flourish as the grass, which, when the winter of old age comes, will wither; but he may be mown down by disease or disaster. Verses 7-11 The afflictions of the saints often come from God's love; but the rebukes of sinners, and of believers for their sins, must be seen coming from the displeasure of God. Secret sins are known to God, and shall be reckoned for. See the folly of those who go about to cover their sins, for they cannot do so. Our years, when gone, can no more be recalled than the words that we have spoken. Our whole life is toilsome and troublesome; and perhaps, in the midst of the years we count upon, it is cut off. We are taught by all this to stand in awe. The angels that sinned know the power of God's anger; sinners in hell know it; but which of us can fully describe it? Few seriously consider it as they ought. Those who make a mock at sin, and make light of Christ, surely do not know the power of God's anger. Who among us can dwell with that devouring fire?

2 CORINTHIANS 4:

3	Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in those who perish;	eij de; kai; e~stin kekalummevnon to; eujaggevlion hJmw'n, ejn toi'ß ajpollumevnoiß ejsti;n kekalummevnon,
4	in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.	ejn oiJ'ß oJ qeo;ß tou' aijw'noß touvtou ejtuvflwsen ta; nohvmata tw'n ajpivstwn eijß to; mh; aujgavsai to;n fwtismo;n tou' eujaggelivou th'ß dovxhß tou' Xristou', o&ß ejstin eijkw;n tou' qeou'.

7 8	But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair;	~ecomen de; to;n qhsauro;n tou'ton ejn ojstrakivnoiß skeuvesin, i&na hJ uJperbolh; th'ß dunavmewß h\/ tou' qeou' kai; mh; ejx hJmw'n: ejn panti; qlibovmenoi ajll# ouj stenocwrouvmenoi, ajporouvmenoi ajll# oujk ejxaporouvmenoi,
9	pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed;	diwkovmenoi ajll# oujk ejgkataleipovmenoi, kataballovmenoi ajll# oujk ajpolluvmenoi,
10	always carrying in the body the putting to death of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.	pavntote th;n nevkrwsin tou' #Ihsou' ejn tw'/ swvmati perifevronteß, i&na kai; hJ zwh; tou' #Ihsou' ejn tw'/ swvmati hJmw'n fanerwqh'/.
11	For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus` sake, that the life also of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh.	ajei; ga;r hJmei'ß oiJ zw'nteß eijß qavnaton paradidovmeqa dia; #Ihsou'n, i&na kai; hJ zwh; tou' #Ihsou' fanerwqh'/ ejn th'/ qnhth'/ sarki; hJmw'n.
12	So then death works in us, but life in you.	w&ste oJ qavnatoß ejn hJmi'n ejnergei'tai, hJ de; zwh; ejn uJmi'n.
13	But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, "I believed, and therefore I spoke." We also believe, and therefore also we speak;	e~conteß de; to; aujto; pneu'ma th'ß pivstewß, kata; to; gegrammevnon, #Epivsteusa, dio; ejlavlhsa, kai; hJmei'ß pisteuvomen, dio; kai; lalou'men,
14	knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will present us with you.	eijdovteß o&ti oJ ejgeivraß to;n kuvrion #Ihsou'n kai; hJma'ß su;n #Ihsou' ejgerei' kai; parasthvsei su;n uJmi'n.
15	For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.	ta; ga;r pavnta dij uJma'ß, i&na hJ cavriß pleonavsasa dia; tw'n pleiovnwn th;n eujcaristivan perisseuvsh/ eijß th;n dovxan tou' qeou'.
16	Therefore we don`t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.	Dio; oujk ejgkakou'men, ajll# eij kai; oJ e~xw hJmw'n a~nqrwpoß diafqeivretai, ajll# oJ e~sw hJmw'n ajnakainou'tai hJmevra/ kai; hJmevra/.

18	while we don`t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.
